England Short Mat Bowls Squad are coming to Cornwall


Over the weekend of 19th and 20th September 2015 Cornwall County Short Mat Bowling Association will be hosting the full England Short Mat Bowls National Squad of around 50 bowlers as part of the associations 25th anniversary at Carnmoggas Indoor Bowling Club near St Austell.

The format of the weekend will see the England squad utilise Saturday 19th as a practice day ahead of a match against Cornwall team on Sunday 20th.  A detailed program for the two days will be made available nearer to the date but on  both days play is expected to start at around 9am and run through till 5pm on Saturday and 4pm on Sunday.

The England squad includes 9 players from Cornwall, including current National Fours champions Tom Westlake, Luke Jolly, Ed Dyer and Karen Watson who won the title back in April at Church Gresley in Derbyshire.

The other England squad members from Cornwall are Peter Hore, Elise Daniell, Nigel Nicholls, David Studden and Gillian Cawrse.

In Cornwall currently there are around 60 active clubs registered through the County Association and an estimated 20 more clubs who chose not to take part in competitive fixtures.  Around 1200 bowlers are members of the association.  In Devon there are in excess of 1000 clubs and 1900 members.

In Cornwall a full program of competitions runs through the winter months from September through to April.  The calendar for 2015/16 can be found here  In additional a full league program operates with around 70 teams split between four area leagues.
