Coronavirus, an update from Active Cornwall

20 million people can't be wrong!

According to the International Netball Federation that is the number of people that play netball!

Cornwall Sports Partnership along with England Netball, Cornwall Netball and Sport England are trying to grow this number within Cornwall and have received £25,000 from Sport England to do so!

By working in local clusters they aim to have a netball offer available for everyone over the age of 14 whether in a competitive club match, informal lunch time game, U16 central venue, mass events or just popping up in your local community on the beach, park or local shopping centre!

Tim Marrion from Cornwall Sports Partnership said 'This investment into a rural county will go a long way into making a difference in local communities to ensure we have a netball offer to suit everyone and grow regular weekly participation in a great sport for women and girls. Utilising the national This Girl Can campaign we hope to give more confidence to women to come back to netball, have great fun playing a new sport and establish new informal opportunities that cater for everyone's needs'.

David Rose National Development Manager, Regional Implementation for England Netball had this to say 'England Netball is delighted to be working with Cornwall Sports Partnership to grow participation across Cornwall. This is a significant investment from Sport England and England Netball, as well as from Cornwall Sports Partnership'.

'We have an exciting mix of Netball Offers to suit everyone which I am sure will result in many more women and girls taking part in an enjoyable, social  sport, which will help increase the number of women and girls becoming more active as a result'

Cornwall Sports Partnership are present this week at the Royal Cornwall Show (4th, 5th & 6th June) stand number 462 promoting opportunities to play netball and launching the Netball Local project with an Active Zone focusing on activities for women and girls to play sport.

This week is also National Women in Sports Week and is a perfect time to launch this programme to encourage more women to play sport. Join the conversation on social media using @CornwallSportsP and the hash tag #WSW2015 #NetballLocal
