2015 Cornwall Sports Awards - Celebrating Women in Sport!

Nominations are being sought to recognise and reward inspirational women from across Cornwall who help motivate others to take part in sport, for the 2015 Cornwall Sports Awards.

The Cornwall Sports Partnership would like to make the 2015 Cornwall Sports Awards a celebration of 'Women in Sport'.  Having previously received a significantly lower number of nominations for women than men, we want to ensure that every woman who does great things for local sport receive the recognition they deserve.

Natasha Howard from the CSP explains: "We have held the Cornwall Sports Awards every year since 2006 to give recognition to our local sports volunteers who are the unsung heroes in making Cornish sport as great as it is.

"Over the years we have uncovered some incredibly inspirational people but, despite there being hundreds of women that volunteer in sport in Cornwall, we always receive more nominations for men. That's why this year we are calling for clubs to take the time to nominate a woman who volunteers to make sport happen!"

Inspirational women who have previously been recognised include Carrie Short, from Bude Bay Netball Club, who won the 2014 'Children's Coach of the Year'. Carrie was instrumental in developing the Club from 2 teams to now having over 100 members, fielding 2 Senior League Teams, 5 Junior League Teams and a new Back to Netball session.

Rose Stuart from Tamar Canoe Association won the 2013 'Community Volunteer of the Year'. As secretary of the association Rose regularly organised taster days and go canoe days for beginners to have a go at paddling. She has also worked with community projects including the jubilee celebrations and Saltash Regatta. A level 1 coach she is also a founder member of Devon and Cornwall seabirds a female only group of paddlers.

The deadline for nominations for the 2015 Cornwall Sports Awards has been extended to Monday 14th September 2015 so now's the time to make your nomination!

If you know somebody who does great things for sport in your local community, why not say thank you and give them the recognition they truly deserve.
