#2017CSA Previous winner celebrates national recognition

(R) Jackie Tresidder and award sponsor Andrew McKnight

Nominations are now open for the annual Cornwall Sports Awards, sponsored by Truro & Penwith College and the University of Exeter.

Cornwall Sports Partnership wants this year's awards to focus on people and projects within local communities who are inspiring others to be physically active.

Volunteers are the lifeblood of our local communities and are vital in helping us to achieve our goal of 50,000 people more active by 2020.

Just like our previous winner Jackie Tresidder from Penryn Netball Club who won our Lifetime Services to Sport Award in 2016.  Jackie has dedicated 40
years of her life volunteering in netball.  Coaching Penryn Netball club for 20 years she has led the club to grow to 5 senior teams and consistently
be successful.  Jackie has coached Cornwall Netball youth teams and at a number of local schools in Falmouth and Truro.  She has also been Chair of Penryn and Cornwall Netball.

2016 Cornwall Sports Awards

Looking back on the evening at The Headland Hotel, Newquay in November 2016 Jackie said: "I often think back to the Awards evening and how humbled I felt on that night and I still do. Winning the Lifetime Services to Sport award for something I love doing still feels amazing. This year I was nominated by Cornwall Netball for the Netball South West Unsung Hero award and unbelievably I won, I now go through to the National finals In Birmingham in September. I haven't done these things for the recognition but for the love of the sport, being rewarded for your hobby is a great feeling."

Cornwall Sports Awards organiser, Natasha Howard of the Cornwall Sports Partnership, said: "We organise this event as an opportunity for people to say thank you to the amazing volunteers and organisations who help others to be more active.  It's always humbling to read the information and inspiring stories shared on the nomination forms and it's an honour to organise this event and celebrate what people do in their local communities."

The awards are separated into three categories and incorporate 10 separate awards including Coach of the Year, Disability Activator of the Year, Volunteer of the Year, Lifetime Services to Sport & Physical Activity, Community Participation Award plus many more...

The deadline for nominations for the 2017 Cornwall Sports Awards is Friday 8th September 2017, so now's the time to make your nomination!
