Coronavirus, an update from Active Cornwall

Active Travel, inspired to cycle

Capitalising on the support and enthusiasm for cycling that the Grand Depart of the Tour of Britain has had on the Cornwall communities, Active Cornwalls Project Officer Karen Edmond wanted to share some of her personal family images of her following of the Stage 1.

The high profile riders who covered Cornwall's roads were a huge draw for hundreds of children in Cornwall who flocked to the finish line of the Tour of Britain, in Bodmin this month. My own daughter, niece and nephew were among them!

Whilst there we took the opportunity to snap a photo with local Saint Piran rider, Steve Lampier, and he explained to the children how proud he was as a local Cornish man to represent the UCI Continental team Saint Piran.

He told us how he wants to inspire the community to getting on their bikes more, cycling recreationally and encouraging cycling as part of active travel.

In my role at Active Cornwall we have been working with schools over this last year to encourage their involvement in Active Travel and Modeshift Stars to give all schools in Cornwall the opportunity to develop a sustainable Active Travel plan. Click here to gain more information on the work Active Cornwall has been doing with schools, and how a school can become more involved in Active Travel.

What's more, we now are launching our NEW Active Travel Logo, you will now see this logo in communications we and our partners do in terms of Active Travel.

Get involved

You, your family and your school can continue to be involved. Bike to School Week is taking place from 27th September to 1st October. It's a weeklong event to encourage schools, pupils and their families to cycle and scoot to school. Being involved with this event will demonstrate the benefits being active and engaging in active travel on the school run brings. You can read more about the Benefits here.

Even if you can't take part in Bike to School Week, you can show your support by pledging to be an Active Travel Champion either as a parent or teacher.

Lets encourage as many people as we can to get out and about more on their bikes!
