Be Active Truro returns to city
A sporting festival that aims to get people off the sofa or up from their desks and get active is returning to Truro in August.
'Be Active Truro' runs from Monday, August 6 until Saturday, August 11, with Lemon Quay being turned into a "sport and activity hub" with a full schedule of free events throughout the week.
It's being organised by Truro City Council, Totally Truro Business Improvement District and Cornwall Sports Partnership, along with Truro-based company Event Cornwall.
Organisers hope that 'Be Active Truro' will support more people of all abilities in getting the recommended 30 minutes of activity, five days a week to maintain a healthy lifestyle.
Activities to see and try take place from 10am to 4pm each day, and include anything from wheelchair basketball to dance mat games.
Natasha Howard from Cornwall Sports Partnership said: "You don't have to be sporty to join in. The week is simply about getting active and having fun, so there will be plenty of things to try out throughout the week."
Neil Scott, BID manager for Totally Truro, said: "There will be an abundance of events going on, with Lemon Quay becoming a sports and activity hub for the week. The 'Be Active Truro' festival has held for the first time last year, and was so well-received we've brought it back."
A full programme is available at www.enjoytruro.co.uk, with printed guides available from Truro Tourist Information Centre, sports shops and venues across Truro. Local sports clubs will also be holding lunchtime taster sessions throughout the week.
Be Active Truro is part of a wider initiative called Get Active Cornwall, www.getactivecornwall.co.uk to encourage people to be more active - for children to be physically active for at least 60 minutes each day or for adults to do at least two and half hours of physical activity each week.
