City to host Be Active Truro Festival: August 15 to 19

A five-day festival encouraging people of all ages to get active is being set up in Truro next month.

Be Active Truro is a festival of healthy and fun sporting activities from August 15 to 19, being organised by Truro City Council, Cornwall Sports Partnership, Totally Truro Business Improvement District and Event Cornwall.

Among the events taking place are a traditional sports day for businesses and retailers to get involved with, wheelchair basketball and Zumba dance demonstrations - all taking place around Lemon Quay and Boscawen Park.

A printed guide is being distributed amongst local schools and is also available from Truro Tourist Information Centre, participating businesses and to download from

Natasha Howard from Cornwall Sports Partnership said: "Taking up a new sport or activity can be daunting so we want to introduce some enjoyable sessions so people can just have a go.

"It's recommended that we all take at least 30 minutes of exercise, five times a week. We want to make this as fun and accessible as possible and there's some interesting and unusual sessions on offer during Be Active Truro week."

Neil Scott, BID manager at Totally Truro, said: "This is the first Be Active Truro festival and we'll be making the most of the fantastic open spaces in the city.

"Summer is a great time to start getting active and this is the ideal chance to try something new, whether in your lunch break or with your family."

Be Active Truro is part of Cornwall Sports Partnership's wider initiative, Get Active Cornwall, which encourages people to complete five 30 minute sessions of physical activity per week.
