Community Action Through Sport secure £54,000 project

Community Action Through Sport (CATS) have successfully secured the funding to roll out a £54,000 two year Street Paddler project in Cornwall and Devon. This is part of the wider CATS scheme to promote, recognise and reward young people for volunteer action in the community. The Street Paddler project will see the delivery of 27 canoeing based activity programmes targeting young people aged 13 to 19 years at risk of offending, or known to the police for nuisance behaviour.

Each programme will offer canoeing based activities that develop leadership skills, education, self confidence and respect, with the outcome to give young people the life skills they need to be able to contribute positively within their community. Funding was secured from sported, BIG Lottery and Lloyds TSB foundation for England and Wales to ensure the project could take place, with logistical support from Canoe England.

The project will have a huge impact on the local communities in Cornwall and Devon, and provide young people at risk with an opportunity to engage in positive activities that develop their skills and leadership.
