Cornwall Olympic Legacy Programme receives Gold Standard!

Sportivate

Cornwall Sport Partnership has received GOLD Standard from Sport England by achieving over 100% of its target to retain 11-25 year olds as part of its Sportivate programme.

In 2013, the Cornwall Sports Partnership launched year four of the OIympic-inspired, Sportivate Programme, targeting 11 to 25 year olds to get into sport. As the local driving force behind the National campaign to increase levels of participation, the Cornwall Sports Partnership will be awarding grants to support local sporting projects.

Sportivate is giving teenagers and young adults - who currently aren't playing sport in their own time - the chance to receive six weeks of coaching in a sport of their choice. The young people are then helped to find a club or venue where they can keep taking part. Since it was launched in Cornwall in June 2011, the programme has already been a massive success with almost 4,000 14 to 25 year olds regularly participating in sporting activities off the back of the Sportivate sessions they'd attended.  So far this year, Cornwall has retained 308 participants which works out to be 105% of the 6 month target and has therefore received the Gold rating from Sport England.

Since April, many providers have benefited from the funding which Sportivate can offer, including Plymouth Sports Academy, Nankersey Gig Rowing Club and St Austell Rugby Club.

Mike Thomas, Director at the Cornwall Sports Partnership, comments: "Through Sportivate funding we have been able to invest in Cornish community clubs and organisations, providing essential resources to get more young people more active and to also work towards building a legacy from the 2012 Olympic games. Its success in Cornwall has been incredible and in less than two years, almost 1,300 young people have participated in six weeks or more of sporting activity and continued to enjoy taking part in that activity within their community."

We are currently targeting men aged 19 to 25 and women aged 16 to 25 - so if you work within an organisation that engages this group of young people or know someone that does then please get in touch and we can do the rest to get them active.
