Cornwall School Games Covid 19 Response - 17th April 2020

The team behind the Cornwall Summer School Games (Active Cornwall, School Games Organisers and staff at our host venue Poltair School) would like to update all schools, parents, carers, pupils and stakeholders following recent Government Covid-19 announcements on our response.

Unfortunately, the decision has been made to cancel the 2020 Summer School Games due to take place on Friday 26th June at Poltair School in St Austell, Cornwall School Beach Games and Cornwall School Extreme Games both due to take place on Wednesday 24th June. This includes all necessary qualifying events.

If Government guidance allows and children have returned to school it is the intention for the group behind the Cornwall School Games to offer some local area festivals of sport in July as an end of year celebration of school sport. This will be confirmed following further Government guidance and if it feels relevant for schools during a time of uncertainty.

The network of School Games Organisers along with Active Cornwall have been producing weekly updates which include opportunities for staff working in education and ways to keep children active at home. If you are not receiving these weekly updates please make contact.

If you have any concerns or questions regarding any aspect of this statement, please contact your local School Games Organiser in the first instance or Tim Marrion at Active Cornwall on tim.marrion@cornwall.gov.uk
