Cornwall School Games - COVID-19 Statement

The team behind the Cornwall School Games (Active Cornwall and School Games Organisers) would like to update all schools, parents, carers and pupils following the COVID-19 outbreak and our response.

Unfortunately, due to some schools cancelling all non-essential school events, uncertainty of availability of host sites, potential staffing issues and following local risk assessments and being unable to offer hand washing facilities and isolation rooms for the scale of the events all Cornwall School Games spring events will be postponed until we have new information from the Government.

To confirm the following events will not take place:

  • All local Cornwall School Games Qualifiers planned before Easter 2020
  • Cross Country Finals on Thursday 26th March
  • Sportshall Athletics Finals on Thursday 16th April
  • Spring Games on Friday 17th April which includes:
    • Secondary - Mixed Hockey
    • Secondary - Aquathon
    • Primary - Grass Track Cycling
    • Primary - Key Stage One Multi Skills
    • Primary - ProjectAbility Pentathlon

If you are a school who qualified for the Spring Games or Sportshall Athletics events you will be contacted individually by the end of play today (Tuesday 17th March 2020).

We understand that the cancellation of these events may cause concern, disappointment and upset for some children and parents/carers. This decision has not been taken lightly and we will do our best to reschedule these events where possible.

No decision has been made on the main Summer Cornwall School Games which is due to take place on Friday 26th June at Poltair School, St Austell and future qualifiers post Easter.

Following updated guidance, a further statement will confirm these post Easter.

If you have any concerns or questions regarding any aspect of this statement, please contact your local School Games Organiser in the first instance or Tim Marrion at Active Cornwall on tim.marrion@cornwall.gov.uk
