Cornwall School Games

On Friday 29th June 2018, over 4000 students from primary and secondary schools across Cornwall will be excitedly heading to the Cornwall School Games Finals Day which this year is being held at Penryn College and School Games sponsors University of Exeter Penryn campus.

The day will see student's competing in 24 different sports such as Basketball, Gymnastics, Bowls, Dance, Hockey, Dodgeball, Cricket, Rugby, Athletics, Golf plus a number of Projectability sports throughout the day.

Paul Walker, Headteacher at Penryn College said:  "We're really pleased to be hosting the Cornwall School Games at Penryn College this year. We're busy planning a packed day of events to be held here and at the neighbouring Penryn Campus, thanks to our partners at the University of Exeter."

Students have been working amazingly hard attending qualifying events throughout the year to make sure they claim their spot at this year's finals.

However, it won't be just winning that competitors will have on their minds. The games will again be recognising both the depth and breadth of performance across all the finals events throughout the year. Whether you came 1st or 8th it all matters as points will be allocated towards the 'Champions Races' that charts the achievement of schools across each of the sport competitions and is sponsored by Jack Nowell and Helen Glover.

Rachel Knott, Cornwall School Games Lead at Cornwall Sports Partnership said: "The School Games is an exciting, fully inclusive competition for school children and provides a unique opportunity to motivate and inspire millions of young people across the country to engage in PE and school sport."

Set across four levels nationally, the School Games framework is fully inclusive and has been designed to increase the amount of competitive sport taking place across the school year. From class versus class and school versus school, through to countywide sports festivals and culminating in a national finals event, this year taking place in Loughborough University over two days from 31st September 2018.

In 2017 we announced a new partnership with the University of Exeter to inspire more young people to be engaged in Physical Activity through the School Games.

The University of Exeter, which has two campuses in Cornwall - Penryn and Truro, will sponsor the Cornwall School Games for three years to enable more young people to be inspired by PE and school sport.
