Cornwall Stadium Study identifies Truro and Threemilestone as a preferred location

A study recently commissioned by Cornwall Council to look at the possibility of creating a new sports and events complex in Cornwall has identified Truro and Threemilestone as the preferred location for a stadium.

Stadium specialist Gardiner and Theobald has undertaken extensive analysis of possible locations across Cornwall based on four key factors; Social, Transport, Environment and Economic.

A stadium, attracting high visitor numbers, will bring challenges in terms of planning, environment and transport. The project team is looking at options to deliver a stadium including consideration on the impact it will have to the area. Further work and discussions will now take place with local stakeholders to identify a preferred site in Truro and Threemilestone.

Carolyn Rule, Cornwall Council Cabinet Member for the Economy and Regeneration, said: “It’s great to see the project take a step forward by identifying a location. The stadium will be an inspiration to all that use it and will encourage participation in sports, as well as the economic benefits it can provide for the whole of Cornwall.”

The study, including a business plan, will identify the facilities and tenant(s). It is expected to be completed at the end of the year.
