DAN 5k Series proves a bit hit!

Duchy Athletics Network

This summer the Duchy Athletics Network (DAN) 5k series of runs proved to be very popular with established runners and new runners alike. Run over five different courses across Cornwall, it offered up some challenging but enjoyable racing to over 600 participants.

The first race, at Stithians Show Ground, hosted and organised by CAC, was the catalyst to put the word out to the Cornish road running community that it was was a competition offering a tough but refreshing form of racing, and the entry of 120 runners definitely demonstrated the pulling power of the event.

The following multi-terrain events held at Tregorrick, St Clements and Cape Cornwall, and the beach run at Hayle Towans, hosted and organised by St Austell Running Club, Truro Running Club, Mounts Bay Harriers and Hayle Runners, also offered some great opportunities for runners to push themselves to the limit or to just enjoy the great scenery offered by the race series courses.  For those who had never experienced competitive running it also proved very popular with groups of family members or friends that were new to running; there was even was a father and son team who completed all five races in the series.

The 5k series has proven so successful, the Network has promised to organise another one for 2012; with profits to be used to train new Coaches and Leaders so that DAN member clubs will be able to offer more opportunities for people wishing to take up running in the county.
