Delegates Inspired at the Cornwall PE and School Sport Conference

2017 Cornwall PE and School Sport Conference

On Tuesday 12th September the University of Exeter hosted the Cornwall PE and School Sport Conference.

Close to 200 delegates attended from early years, primary and secondary education to hear about the latest local and national developments in PE and School Sport. Ruth Grimmer, Head of Professional Services from the university and the Cornwall School Games sponsor opened the conference by welcoming everyone to the campus in Penryn.

The conference was a huge success with all delegates engaging in three of the seventeen practical workshops organised by Cornwall's School Sport Networks and School Games Organisers which varied from Dance to PE Data Tracking to Inclusivity.

Delegates also heard from keynote speaker Tallan Skeels-Piggins. Tallan is a former Royal Navy Fighter Controller and PE teacher who has overcome a serious accident that left him in a wheelchair to become a Paralympian and world champion alpine skier.

One of the event's organisers Julie Ponting from Arena School Sport Network commented 'Another well attended and worthwhile Cornwall PE and School Sport conference, this year hosted by the UoE in their outstanding facilities.  Thanks to Ruth Grimmer, for providing the facilities and for supporting the conference.  Feedback from delegates was very positive with many of the attendees enjoying the practical elements of the workshops.  Our keynote speaker Tallan received exceptional reviews from our delegates for sharing his inspiration and brave journey."
