Dirty Duathlon victory for Penwith College Pair

Penwith College pairing of Tom Holland and Julian Wills triumphed in the Lanhydrock Mud and Sweat 'Dirty Duathlon' event. A'level student Tom and College Sports Maker Julian are sponsored by Velotive, and compete as a relay team at duathlon events across the region, Julian undertaking the running and Tom riding the bike section of the race.

The Dirty Duathlon consisted of a 5k trail run, followed by a 15k mountain bike ride, ending with a 2.5K trail run. In dry and cool conditions the race proved to be very fast with Julian recording a total run time for the 7.5K of just over 24 minutes. Tom recorded the fastest bike split for the event, with some phenomenal speed over the mud free terrain. The pair came home winners of the race with minutes to spare on the rest of the field, with a time of 1 hour and 8 minutes.

Tom, who will be competing at the national mountain bike championships later this month, said "Initially we were a little concerned with the dry and flat terrain as we both prefer more intimidating and muddy courses, but as the race evolved we both embraced the smoother and faster surface. We are delighted with the win."
