Organisations delivering community sport and physical activity and experiencing short term financial hardship or the ceasing of operations due to the impact of coronavirus are encouraged to apply to this Sport England fund as a matter of urgency.

Priority will be given to those organisations who deliver to Older Adults, Women and Girls, People who suffer from long term conditions, People from lower socio-economic areas.

Grants of between £300-£10,000 are available for organisations who need this support to survive.

This fund is proving extremely popular in its first few weeks with 6,000 applications to date with over 1,400 awards being made. Over £5m has already been allocated with a success rate of about 65%.

Sport England still have funding available to support sport clubs and organisations who deliver sport and physical activity within their programmes through the Community Emergency Fund and are calling on wider organisations who deliver to their target audiences.

The Community Emergency Fund (CEF) aims to deliver immediate funding to those most in need. It's specifically targeted at organisations, including those not currently supported by Sport England, who have a role in supporting their local communities to be active but who are experiencing short term financial hardship or the ceasing of operations due to the ongoing crisis.

The types of organisations eligible include local sports clubs forced to close at short notice but who are facing ongoing costs around maintenance and utility bills, but also include voluntary and community sector organisations who deliver or enable sport and physical activity within their local communities.

Lewis Sanders of Active Cornwall said: "The Community Emergency Fund offers a lifeline to support those organisations who are in desperate need of some emergency grant funding to stay alive. We are already aware of a number of clubs that have received grant support from this fund. We encourage other organisations in need of this support to apply immediately."

Sport England have made the application process very simple with information available on their website about how to apply: https://www.sportengland.org/how-we-can-help/coronavirus
