100 STUDENTS TO TAKE PART IN THE FIRST EVER CORNWALL FOUNDATION STUDIES FESTIVAL OF SPORT

On Friday 18th March 2016 up to 100 students will take part in the first ever Cornwall Foundation Studies Festival of Sport.

Taking place at Cornwall College, Camborne from 12.30pm until 3pm the festival will see students who are currently on Foundation Courses at Cornwall College and Truro & Penwith College take part in various sports including Cricket, Basketball and Boccia plus much more. They will also have the opportunities to try other activities such as Table Cricket and a Rowing Simulator!

All students who take part in the festival will receive a water bottle and certificate of attendance and it is hoped that the event will encourage further participation for those with learning disabilities into community activity.

The focus of the day will be to signpost participants into the Cornwall Special Olympics Club and its numerous hub activities across the county.

Steve Hillman, Sports Inclusion Officer at the CSP had this say: "This festival is a great opportunity for those on Foundation Studies to try new sports and demonstrate their skills to be able to go on and compete for the Cornwall Special Olympics Club. It is a great partnership between us, Truro and Penwith College and Cornwall College to grow the offer to their students and show that everyone has the opportunity to participate in sport and physical activity whatever level they are."

Tim Marrion, Partnership Manager at the Cornwall Sports Partnership went on to comment: "A huge thanks must be said to both colleges to support what we are doing to get more people with disabilities active, this festival is a small part of the wider programme we do to engage with those with both physical and learning disabilities. Since the Cornwall Special Olympics club was established last year it has gone from strength to strength with a team of great volunteers behind a central session and regular hub activity across the county."
