Full house at Cornwall’s first Sports Funding Fair

Cornwall’s first ever Sports Funding Fair exceeded already high expectations last week when it attracted more than 200 attendees.

Organised by the Cornwall Sports Partnership, in collaboration with the Cornwall Rural Community Council (CRCC) and InterLink, the free evening event took place at Truro College on Wednesday March 17.

It was open to sports clubs or anyone looking to run or develop a sport and leisure related venture and was specifically designed for them to find out how to access much-needed funding for their projects; through one-to-one discussions and formal presentations from various funders.

The funding organisations that attended the event included: Sport England, Sported, Big Lottery, InterLink, CRCC, Redruth Charity Trust and Cornwall Community Foundation.

Event organiser, Natasha Howard from the Cornwall Sports Partnership, said:
“We’re absolutely thrilled with the turn out tonight. There is a wealth of funding available and up for grabs to sports clubs, groups and organisations for an array of different ventures – for projects as little as £100 right up to those looking for tens of thousands of pounds.

“This event was designed specifically for anyone who has had trouble finding funds in the past, or who has never explored these routes before, to find out exactly what they could be eligible for and how to go about applying for it. And, from the feedback we’ve received, this evening has been immensely successful at signposting a lot of those people to the right stream of funding for them”.

One attendee enthused: “It was an incredibly useful event which was very well run. I’ve come away with a lot of information and feel confident that there certainly is a lot of help and funding out there. A couple of hours very well spent!”
