An exciting new Cornish website is enabling and challenging the county to have a go at something they maybe haven't attempted to play before - basketball!

Whether you're a beginner and would like to give it a go, haven't played for a while and fancy trying it again, or are new to the area and would like to join a club, you'll find plenty of opportunities to get into basketball over the next few months all across Cornwall on www.getactivecornwall.co.uk, a new website developed specifically to inspire and motivate Cornish residents to be more active.

Designed to help us all achieve our recommended 150 minutes of exercise a week, the Get Active Cornwall website provides useful tips and advice on how to get started, how to find the right activity for you and to help you find your nearest opportunities. Without preaching, it explains the benefits of being active and keeping fit; in an attempt to coax us gently off our sofa and on our feet!

The website regularly focuses on a specific activity, highlighting ways for absolutely anyone to give it a go, with special free or low cost sessions designed specifically for beginners. And, this autumn they're challenging us to get into basketball!

Throughout the next few months all basketball clubs in the county will be opening up their training sessions to welcome new players. Plus there are a series of different playing initiatives happening, including Sportivate Basketball which has been set up to encourage 14-25 year olds who may not ordinarily play much sport to try the game. And, for players that haven't been on court for a while as well as those that maybe haven't had a shot at the sport before, there is Ball Again.

Cornwall Basketball Development Officer, Andy Cummins, explains: "To make it more inviting for people who've not played basketball before or who haven't played for a while, all our clubs will be running an initial free session for any new players who wish to come along and join in. I'm really looking forward to seeing lots of new faces playing basketball in Cornwall!"
