An exciting new programme has been set up in Newquay and St Austell to help new players get into cricket.

Carrick Leisure Ltd and the Cornwall Sports Partnership have launched the Sportivate Cricketivate League, giving teams the chance to have a go at playing indoor cricket for free and starting this February at Polkyth Leisure Centre in St Austell and Newquay Sports Centre.

The free leagues have been set up to give teams of up to eight players the chance to play indoor cricket; and, no experience of playing cricket is necessary as the sessions will be fully coached and all equipment will be provided.

Teams need four to eight players, aged 14 to 25, and can be work teams, social teams, other sports teams or simply up to eight individuals who fancy taking part in a new sport!

Both Leagues will start on Sunday February 26. The Polkyth League at Polkyth Leisure Centre in St Austell will run from 5pm to 8pm; the Newquay League will run from 1pm to 4pm at Newquay Sports Centre. Both leagues will run for 7 weeks with the top team from each league taking part in an area final in week 8.

The project is funded through Sport England's Sportivate scheme and will be free to enter for teams before April 2012. Sportivate is a nationwide campaign that will capture the excitement of sport, providing opportunities for teenagers and young adults encouraging them into the sport of their choice and guiding them into regular participation within their community.

If you would like to enter a team or would like more information please contact James Clarke on 01726 223681 or email james.clarke@cornwall.gov.uk
