Go where women are - An insight on engaging women & girls in sport & exercise

Go where women are

'Go Where Women Are' is about engaging women in sport and exercise on their terms and in their space whether physically or emotionally.

This review from Sport England explores our current understanding of women, their relevant motivations, barriers and triggers to getting more active, and what this means for sports and exercise activities and initiatives.

Contents of the review include:

  • Context - the need for change
  • Purpose and scope of the review
  • Key Principles
  • Understanding your audience
  • How to engage with women and girls
  • Applying the insight - checklist
  • Reference and sources

Please take a look at the review which can be found at the bottom of this page.

We have also used the Sport England's Market Segmentation Tool to create indepth reports on different sports within the County to help you understand your target audience, their attitudes to sport, their motivations and barriers - you can find them here.

This Girl Can- The recent TGC Campaign really has these issues at its core.  It uses real women who tell the story of their personal experiences.  The campign shows women whilst they are exercising with no attempts to hide what this means they will look like. Instead, their hot and sweaty appearance is celebrated.  Read more about the campaign here.
