Gyllynvase Surf Lifesavers gearing up for the British Championships

There is just 3 weeks until Surf Life Saving GB, the leading charity of volunteer beach lifesavers, will bring the British Life Saving Sport Championships, sponsored by South West Water, to Gyllynvase beach and Gyllynvase Lifesavers are more than ready for the challenge…….

“We here at Gylly have been training hard all summer  and are very excited that the event is finally round the corner,” explains Gyllynvase Surf Life Saving Club Secretary Pat Lord. “The club celebrated its one year anniversary this year and has been described as ‘a great focus for the community’ by its members. The British Champs is a great opportunity to reward the members and show the public what Lifesaving is all about.”
Gyllynvase are one of the many clubs that will come to Falmouth on the 7th- 15th August to compete in the Championships and take part in Life Saving Sport. Often titled the ‘Sport of Lifeguards’, Life Saving Sport is a multi disciplined display of the skills developed and used in lifesaving rescues and Lifesavers who participate in sport are fitter and have increased skill levels, making them better equipped to deal with emergency situations.

The event is generously sponsored by South West Water who are delighted to be part of the Championships once again this year, as South West Water Communications Manager Chris Mills explains;
“Life Saving Sport provides a great showcase of the talent of young Surf Life Saving members dedicated to helping make our local beaches safe. We are thrilled to make this tremendous event possible and hope you can join us to cheer the teams as well as winning prizes in our children’s activity zone.”

The Surf Life Saving GB event is part of the 2010 Henri Lloyd Falmouth Week in which there will be an extensive shore-side program of activities throughout Falmouth. Come and join in the events such as; the Falmouth Marching Carnival, world class sailing event with daily races hosted by a different sailing club each day, the Henri-Lloyd Dinghy Week and concluded it all with fireworks and live-music during the Falmouth Fun Night.
