Coronavirus, an update from Active Cornwall

Holiday Activity & Food Programme

Holiday Programme

As schools will be aware the Department for Education has not funded schools to provide Free School Meals vouchers over the school holidays since the Summer 2020 holiday. However, for the Christmas 2020 and February Half Term 2021 holidays Cornwall Council has utilised funding from its Covid Winter Grant to provide vouchers for all children eligible for benefits-related Free School Meals, kindly distributed through schools on our behalf.

Covid Winter Grant funding ceases in April 2021. Funding has been allocated from the Grant for a final round of Free School Meals vouchers for all children eligible for benefits-related Free School Meals over the Easter 2021 holiday. However, there will be no further funding available to provide a universal food voucher scheme for all FSM families over future holidays.

However, the Government have announced an expansion to its Holiday Activities and Food Programme which will cover the whole of England in 2021. Through this programme, local authorities will provide children aged 5 to 16 free holiday club provision, including healthy food and enriching activities, to children eligible for benefits-related Free School Meals over the Easter, Summer and Christmas holidays in 2021.

This programme will be delivered by Active Cornwall, who sit within Cornwall Council, and for this Easter will include a Wellbeing Pack for children aged 5 to 16 eligible for benefits-related Free School Meals to compliment the food voucher they will receive. There will also be an opportunity for Schools to deliver face to face activity over Easter where they feel it aligns with priorities and Covid safe procedures.

To ensure your children don't miss out this Easter, please order your Wellbeing Packs HERE by close of play Wednesday 17th March 2021. You can also use this link to register your interest in integrating some face to face delivery in your Easter holiday plans.
