Learning Disability in Sport Awareness Workshop
Online Zoom Workshop: November 9th, 10am - 11am and November the 16th, 10am - 11am (participants will need to attend both sessions), 2 hours duration total.
Developed through a partnership between Mencap Sport and Special Olympics Great Britain this workshop looks at learning disability and sport. It aims to help clubs, coaches and providers of sport understand how to support people with a learning disability to access sporting opportunities in an inclusive environment.
What does the workshop cover?
• What is a learning disability
• The issues and barriers people with a learning disability face when accessing sport
• Different ways of communicating with people with a learning disability
• Different ways of including people with a learning disability in sport
• How to promote sport to people with a learning disability
• Different pathways and opportunities available in learning disability sport.
Who is the workshop for?
This workshop is aimed at anyone who wants to know more about learning disability and sport; whether that is professional sports staff, coaches, club volunteers or leisure centre staff.
We are in the process of developing this workshop for online delivery. This is the second time we have piloted this workshop online. It is usually delivered across the country in community settings. For those taking part would very much value your opinion on its online delivery afterwards.
