Local sport maps: small area estimates of participation

Sport England Small Area Estimations

Sport England has developed an interactive web-based tool which provides access to the small area estimates of participation. The tool (created by OCC, Oxford Computer Consultants), which works in a similar way to Sport England's segmentation tool, enables users to generate small area estimate maps, by selecting an area of interest (local authority, CSP, postcode or facility name). Once generated, users can zoom in and out of the selected area, thereby viewing small area estimates of participation for any desired area.

Small area estimates of participation are modelled estimates at a middle super output area level (MSOA), and provide a more detailed picture of participation at the sub local authority level (the Active People Survey provides participation data at local authority level).  Facility data can be overlaid highlighting where facilities are located in relation to higher and lower areas of participation within a local authority area.  Map outputs can be exported to pdf or saved as an image, making it easy to use the maps within other applications such as MS Word, Powerpoint etc.
