Mentor support helps Saltash boxing club secure £2,100 sported. grant

Saltash Amateur Boxing Club have been awarded a grant of £2,100 from sported. The grant will be used to towards coach education of young people, so they can become coaches at the club, and to purchase new training equipment so more young people can join the club.

With the support of sported. Mentor Adam Birnie, Saltash ABC has produced a three year development plan that outlines their long term vision of creating sustainable boxing opportunities, training young people to become coaches and offering more opportunities for young people to become involved in the sport.

Julian Wills, sported. Regional Manager South West said "Adam has been an excellent Mentor, and has supported the club in producing a sustainable business model, that will really leave a legacy of the 2012 games. The club will link with key agencies in the community, targeting some of the most disaffected young people, and providing them with inspirational boxing opportunities. Who know's future Olympic boxing coaches could be born out of this project"

Saltash Amateur Boxing Club is based at the K3 Youth Centre, Saltash, and is for 10 year olds upwards, running various sessions on evenings and at weekends. The costs is as little as £1.50 to attend.
