National Running Craze Hits Cornwall!

parkrun

Saturday 18th January 2014 saw the launch of the first ever parkrun in Cornwall.  Set in the beautiful surroundings of the National Trusts Lanhydrock House, 146 runners of which 82 were first timers to parkrun turned out for the 5k run.

parkrun is organised free, weekly, 5km timed runs which take place in pleasant parkland surroundings.  We encourage people of all abilities to take part; from those taking their first steps in running to Olympians; from juniors to those with more experience.  Everybody is welcome!

National Trusts Lanhydrock is the first venue in Cornwall to become a parkrun site and the Cornwall Sports Partnership are working hard to create more sites across Cornwall over the coming months.

Lewis Sanders from the Cornwall Sports Partnership who set up the event said "It was great to see so many runners to this first event.  We had people from Leeds, Swindon and one person even got the sleeper train from London to take part! I'd like to say a big thank you to all the volunteers who helped out at the event.  This is a community event and we need people to help out each week and even become part of the core team"

Want to take part?  The Lanhydrock parkrun takes place every Saturday morning at 9am.  For more information about parkrun and the Lanhydrock Course please visit www.parkrun.org.uk/lanhydrock
