National Running Craze Hits Trelissick

Trelissick parkrun

Saturday 3rd December 2016 saw the launch of the first ever parkrun at Trelissick National Trust park.  Set in the beautiful surroundings of the Woodland Walk with views of Carrick Roads, 101 runners of which 46 were first timers to parkrun turned out for the 5k run.

parkrun is organised free, weekly, 5km timed runs which take place in pleasant parkland surroundings, encourage people of all abilities to take part; from those taking their first steps in running to Olympians; from juniors to those with more experience.  Everybody is welcome!  Each parkrun is down to volunteers to make each event take place with varying different roles from marshal to barcode scanners and tail runner to event director; parkrun wouldn't take place without these volunteers.

National Trusts Trelissick is the fifth venue in Cornwall to become a parkrun site and the Cornwall Sports Partnership with Lanhydrock, Penrose, Tamar Lakes and Mount Edgcumbe also running the weekly social running event which this week saw over 400 runners and nearly 60 volunteers in Cornwall alone.

Event Director Steve Fenney said: "Even with the damp weather for today's inaugural event, it is great to see so many people getting active and outdoors socialising which is what it is all about. It is just great to get started."

Lewis Sanders from the Cornwall Sports Partnership who assisted Steve and other core volunteers to set up the event said: "It was great to see so many runners to this first event.  I'd like to say a big thank you to all the volunteers who helped out at the event and also the months of setting up.  This is a community event and we need people to help out each week and even become part of the core team."
