The event held at Penryn College on 7th May attracted primary and secondary head teachers, heads of PE, PE co-ordinators, health representatives, Cornwall Sports Partnership, students and parents.
The aim of the event was to support the strong partnership approach that is developing across the county, to further engage with key leaders and decision makers and to underline the potential of PE and school sport to contribute to wider agendas including; whole school improvement, better health and enhanced social/community cohesion.
"Cornwall understands the enormous potential of PE and school sport and is making good progress in its ambition to deliver an outstanding system for its young people. It is encouraging to see such a strong local partnership pulling together to make this happen" said Baroness Sue Campbell
The day featured work going on in a range of Cornwall's schools at both primary and secondary. The day featured keynote presentations on the value of sport in changing individual lives and impacting on whole school improvement and was reinforced by panel discussions involving parents, students and Head Teachers. This was followed by a question and answer session chaired by Trevor Doughty, Cornwall County Council Director of Children, Schools and Families and included key local partners from Public Health and the Cornwall Sports Partnership.
Marie Hunter, Head Teacher at Penryn College and Chair of the School PE and sport Strategic Group said "this was a unique opportunity to bring together the key people from across Cornwall who can lead the delivery of great PE and sport for our young people and to ensure that everyone understands the value of what we are trying to achieve."
