New Cyclewise instructors ready to spread the word
Porthpean Outdoor Education Centre played host to Cornwall Council's schools travel plan team last week as seven students from the Future Jobs Fund, a fund organised by Events4All, took part in and successfully completed Cornwall Council Cyclewise Instructor training.
Based at Porthpean Outdoor Education Centre at St. Austell, the successful students are now geared up and ready to share their skills by taking the program, which has been designed to teach children the necessary skills for using their bikes on the highway, into local schools.
The Cyclewise Instructor training course was led by Cornwall Council's School Travel Plan Team. Tasha Gillatt, School Travel Plan Officer (Cycling) said, "Cyclewise encourages children to get involved in cycling from an early age; it teaches them valuable road safety skills and promotes a fun and active means of travel.
We are fully dependent on volunteers such as those from Porthpean Outdoor Education Centre and are looking forward to them running courses soon!"
Cyclewise is a volunteer-led, road based cycle training scheme for children aged 10 and over. It is co-ordinated by Cornwall Council's School Travel Plan Team and is run in conjunction with schools and youth groups across the county.
