Officials sought for the 2015 Cornwall Sports Awards

Nominations are being sought to recognise and reward officials from across Cornwall, for the 2015 Cornwall Sports Awards.

The Cornwall Sports Partnership is currently taking nominations for the 2015 Cornwall Sports Awards and wants to make sure that every official who does great things for local sport receives the accolade they deserve.

Officials play a vital role in all sports, giving up their own time to ensure that participants have a safe and enjoyable environment to play in.

The Cornwall Sports Partnership is calling for all clubs members and participants to help us raise the awareness of officials and ensure they are given the recognition they deserve.

Natasha Howard from the CSP says: "Officials can include roles such as umpires, referees, judges, scorers and time keepers, I would encourage everyone to consider nominating an official they know.  They are an essential part of playing sport but they are often overlooked for nominations and not thanked for their role in keeping people active".

2014 Official of the Year - Denise Wilson

At the 2014 Cornwall Sports Awards, Denise Wilson from Callywith Gymnastics and Trampolining Club won the official of the year award.  Denise was one of only 3 women's artistic judges in Cornwall.  She had been judging gymnastics and trampolining for over 20 years.  She organised all the judges for competitions held in Cornwall as well as judging herself at each event.  In 2014 she helped organise a judging course in Cornwall, the first for over 5 years, which enabled 30 new judges to become qualified.

On winning her award Denise said "To get the club recognised is a great achievement.  Individually I am extremely proud and honoured to of been nominated.  The evening has been very heart-warming and I am very proud to be part of it."

The deadline for nominations for the 2015 Cornwall Sports Awards is Monday 7th September. So, if you know somebody who does great things for sport in your local community, make sure you make your nomination and give them the recognition they deserve.

Nominations can be made ONLINE or a printable version is also available.
