Truro & Penwith College

Penwith College Sports Activator Mark Stevens engaged with over 140 new 1st year A-Level students participated in a full day of sports and physical activity. Seated Volleyball (picture) which is a Paralympic Sport became the main attraction of the day, where all first year A-Level students participated in an inter tutor group versus tutor group tournament. The initiative was designed to demonstrate the different opportunities available to them through the Health, Wellbeing and Sport enrichment programme, whilst studying at Penwith College.

Throughout the last 18 months Truro and Penwith College have provided their students with a variety of different sporting opportunities across both campuses through the Health, Wellbeing and Sport programme. This Sport England funded initiative is an enrichment programme where students have the opportunity to become more physically active through a menu of sports that the college provides for them.

140 A-Level Students Get Active

Mark said "It is really important to give students opportunities to participate in physical activity and sport as the research suggests that if students are active for the amount of time the recommend guidelines suggest then they will have more energy, therefore it will improve their overall academic studies".

The College new autumn activity timetable is now available. With over 30 free sessions every week. For more information please contact Mark at markstevens@truro-penwith.ac.uk
