Run Cornwall Leaders Celebrate
This week Cornwall Sports Partnership thanked local leaders for the impact they have made on the Run Cornwall project over the last 12 months with a Celebration Evening at the Carn Brea Hub Club. Leaders in Cornwall have formed 18 new groups and engaged over 500 new participants into running over the last year. 70 leaders have been trained and a Leader in Running Fitness course was even held on the Isles of Scilly last summer.
Activator Lewis Sanders said "I've been so impressed with the commitment that our volunteer leaders have made and we wanted to bring them together for an evening to say thank you".
Andy Trudgian from the specialist running shop Personal Best also attended the event and in recognition of the impact Run Cornwall is having on getting more people into running is offering a £50 voucher for the Run Cornwall leader of the month for the next 6 months. Andy attended the Celebration evening to present three leaders with vouchers to launch the scheme. Leaders were issued with Run Cornwall t-shirts and Run Cornwall reflective bibs for their groups.
The first three recipients of the award were Angie Tiller, Daniel Lugg and Helen Pascoe.
Angie launched Zero to 3 miles just over a year ago and has successfully engaged 94 new runners, with over 20% going on to join the Falmouth Running Club. Angie brought two of her Zero to Three Mile graduates with her to the Celebration evening. Martin and Beverley Dalton said they had seen Falmouth Runners out and about in the town and would never have thought they could possibly join a running club, but through Angie's beginner sessions they have been able to make a successful transition from beginner group to club.
One and All is a much smaller group and that's the way leader Helen likes it. 'Run Cornwall recognises that runners want choice and Helen's has been a very successful small and friendly group,' said Sanders.
Mounts Bay Harriers whose beginner course is confined to a multi use games area has been a huge success, drawing in over 100 new runners thanks to leader Daniel.
