Tempus Leisure receives £183k to give local sport a boost

Tempus Leisure

The ACTIVE Cornwall project is set to help more local people get into sport, thanks to £183k of National Lottery funding from Sport England's Community Sport Activation Fund.

Tempus Leisure, a registered charity who run the scheme in Cornwall, is among thirty-six projects to receive a share of £5.9 million of funding to support grassroots sport activity across the country.

The funding will allow Tempus Leisure, who provide leisure services on behalf of Cornwall Council, to develop a new programme designed to encourage members of communities in Cornwall to try a new sport. The project will provide a Community Sports Activator as the link between communities, leisure facilities, national governing sports bodies and activity providers. The Activator will also work closely with Cornwall Sports Partnership to help encourage and promote the benefits of sport and physical activity to individuals and communities.

James Clarke, Senior Community Leisure Officer for Tempus Leisure said: "The award from Sport England for the ACTIVE project is fantastic news for the people of Cornwall. The project will help break down barriers that people living in Cornwall have to accessing sport and physical activity."

The project starts in the New Year and Tempus Leisure would like to hear from any community groups/organisations who would like to be involved.
