Truro and Penwith College students and staff take on Dartmoor at night
A team of students and staff from Truro and Penwith College recently headed onto Dartmoor to undertake the Wild Running 'Burrator Noir' night run. The adventure running group, who are supported by Velotive, undertook either the 10k run around Burrator reservoir or the 10mile run over the moors. The group consisted of a wide age range and ability, with staff from various departments participating alongside Further Education students from both College sites.
The 'Burrator Noir' event attracted over 150 hardy runners from across the South West region, who completed the race using head torches. Weather conditions were extremely challenging with high winds and some rain, thanks to Storm Desmond.
All Truro and Penwith College team members completed the event, with some outstanding performances in the various categories and races. Louise Aspinal, Senior Staff Secretary to the Director of Curriculum and Director of Quality, undertook the 10k race having lost 5 stone in weight after months of structured exercise as part of the national award winning Health, Wellbeing and Sport 'Weigh-to-go' programme.
Louise said "This was an amazing day for me. Twelve months ago I never thought I would be able to complete such an event, but now thanks to the support and advice given by the Health, Wellbeing and Sport team I have achieved something quite remarkable. I will continue to access the activities provided at the College, and encourage others to follow in my footsteps."
