Truro College Students and Physical Activity

Over 16,000 further education students from across the country have been asked to consider how they value the sport and physical activity offer at their College, as part of the National Active Colleges Student Survey. Almost 500 students from Truro and Penwith College participated in the survey, providing information through an online questionnaire.

The results of the survey clearly demonstrates the value that students from Truro and Penwith College place on the Health, Wellbeing and Sport programme, and Academy provision, with a third of students saying that the Colleges sport/physical activity offer was influential in their decision to apply to study at Truro and Penwith College. 80% of the students said they felt that Truro and Penwith College offered a wide variety of physical activity and sport, 20% higher than the national view.

Over 80% of students said that Truro and Penwith Colleges sport/physical activity sessions improved their physical well-being compared to a national statistic of 68%, and over two thirds of students said the Colleges sport/physical activity sessions improved their mental well-being, again much greater than the national average.

Over half the Truro and Penwith College students said sport/physical activity helped them develop employability skills, with the survey also showing that almost two thirds of Truro and Penwith College students said sport/physical activity helped them with their academic College work.

The results of the survey further demonstrate the significant progress the College has made with the development of physical activity programmes which address key objectives detailed in the Truro and Penwith College Sport Strategy. These include establishing employability development opportunities, providing progressive personal development opportunities, and addressing standards of personal welfare.

Emma Seward-Adams, PTL Sport, said "The establishment of the Health, Wellbeing and Sport programme has been critical in the College achieving these high levels of satisfaction and success. Coupled with the achievements of the hugely successful Academy programme, we deliver an outstanding physical activity and sport offer for students, adding significant value to their College experience."
