Unsung Heroes to be celebrated at 2009 Cornwall Sports Awards

Special guest Michaela Breeze will be attending the Cornwall Sports Awards

Well-deserved celebrations and tributes are due to be paid to Cornwall’s sports volunteers next week at the 2009 Cornwall Sports Awards being held in Newquay.

The event, taking place at The Esplanade Hotel in Newquay on Friday 13 November, will be compered by Pirate FM presenter, Neil Caddy. More than 200 guests will be attending the Awards and will be joined by Olympic weightlifter Michaela Breeze, Cornwall rugby coach Dave Thomas, and last year’s BBC SW Unsung Sporting Hero Chris Goninan.

Organised by the Cornwall Sports Partnership and Cornwall Council, the event was set up four years ago to thank the many volunteers around the county who dedicate their time and efforts to supporting our strong sports community.

Cornwall Sports Awards organiser, Natasha Howard of the Cornwall Sports Partnership, says: “It’s wonderful to be able to formally thank all the people behind sport whose volunteering efforts so often go unrecognised. As we all know, without their help, sport in Cornwall would not be as strong as it is and may not even be possible.”

A variety of Cornish companies and organisations are supporting the event through sponsorship, including: Truro College, Tony Pryce Sports, the Health Promotion Service, Miller Countrywide and Cornwall’s School Sport Partnerships.
