Volunteer Mentors - Cornwall
sported. are currently recruiting volunteers to work within the sported. scheme in Cornwall as mentors with organisations using sport to have a positive impact on young people.
Who are sported.?
sported. is a national Charity providing capacity building and grant-giving services formed in 2009 by Sir Keith Mills, Deputy Chairman of London 2012 Olympic Games Organising Committee. sported. is currently leading three schemes in the South West, London and the West Midlands, but will be nationwide by 2012.
Role of Volunteer Mentors
This volunteer opportunity offered by sported. is integral to the work of the charity developing community sport within disadvantaged communities. Following induction training and with the provision of resources, volunteers are provided with an exciting sports development and project management opportunity through being placed with a community organisation where they provide support and guidance. The role they provide includes:
- One to one support in a range of areas including: Business planning, Policies and procedures, Financial management, HR, Monitoring and evaluation and links with sport governing bodies and agencies.
- Support in fundraising - through supporting applications to the sported. grant scheme and making applications to external grant sources.
Who can be a Mentor?
With training and resources provided by sported. anyone with business/sports/club development knowledge/experience is eligible to apply to be a mentor. We are however especially hoping to attract individuals from the following sectors:
- Community Sport/Community workers
- Business professionals
- Sports development/business students
With volunteers being recruited from a wide range of backgrounds individuals are matched with an organisation whose needs complement their experience, and their geographic location.
What is the time commitment?
Volunteer opportunities are flexible, with a fairly small expected time commitment of one meeting every 2-3 weeks and with meetings being arranged jointly by the volunteer and supported organisation we are able to accommodate individuals with only limited availability.
Individuals with greater availability are able to take on more intensive placements or work with multiple organisations.
