Sport Welfare Officer year in review
For over a year now, our dedicated sport welfare officer Cara Bache-Jeffreys has been proactively supporting those involved in sport and physical activity in Cornwall, providing advice, guidance, training and resources on everything related to welfare and safeguarding.
About Us
Our vision is for a Cornwall where inequalities are no longer a barrier to an active life.
We champion the benefits of incorporating movement into everyday life, focusing resources on those facing the most significant inequalities and sharing insights to influence policy and help integrate activity into education, healthcare and community life.Â
One of 42 independently constituted Active Partnerships across England working closely with a range of national partners, we support ‘Uniting the Movement’ for Sport England in Cornwall.
In partnership with the NHS, Cornwall Council and local delivery partners, we commission and build capacity for physical activity for those who need it most. Engaging with communities and delivering national initiatives locally, we tackle barriers that prevent people from leading active healthy lives, targeting specific groups in priority places to drive positive change at scale, supporting those who need the most help to move more and live well for longer.
Why do we do this?
Research shows that being active can reduce the risk of major illnesses and early death by 30% yet headline data from Sport England’s Active Lives Survey shows that around a third of adults in Cornwall are not active enough for good health. 49% of children in Cornwall do not meet the recommended physical activity guidelines, especially those from less affluent families or with special educational needs and disability, and our aging and minority populations are increasing and economic disparities growing, leading to more inequality and less activity.
